The APIVerve extension fills Airtable columns from the catalog. Pick an API, choose the column it reads from, tick the fields you want back, and it writes the results into new or existing columns for every row in the table or view.
Adding the extension
In a base, open Extensions, choose Add an extension, search for APIVerve and add it.
Choose Sign in with APIVerve and approve access in the window that opens, or paste an API key from your dashboard. Only editors of the base can connect. The connection is saved with the extension in this base, so everyone who uses the extension here runs it on that account and its credits. Disconnect removes it.
Filling a column
- Choose an API. Eight common ones for tables are listed first: Email Validator, Phone Number Validator, IP Lookup, VPN Proxy Detector, Disposable Email Checker, Domain Age, WHOIS Lookup and Company Lookup. Search or filter by category to find the rest.
- Pick the table, and optionally a view to run on only its records.
- Under Read from, choose the column for each input. The extension suggests one by name, so
an
emailinput picks an Email column. - Under Write to, tick the response fields you want. Each becomes a column named after the field, and a column with that name that already exists is reused. Numbers, checkboxes and text get matching column types.
- Choose Run. The button shows how many distinct values will be looked up and the most it can cost.
Rows with the same input share one request, so a table with the same domain in 50 rows uses one lookup for all 50. Rows whose input is empty are skipped. Turn on Skip rows that already have results to fill only the rows that don't have results yet, for example after adding new records.
Runs over 500 lookups ask you to confirm first. New columns are created with the first result, so a run that fails outright doesn't leave empty columns behind.
Files and images
APIs that read a file, such as PDF to Text, Image to Text, Barcode Reader and QR Code Reader, take an attachment column. The extension sends the first attachment in each cell, and picks an attachment column for these inputs automatically. A text column holding a public file URL works too.
Credits and errors
Each distinct value is one request and uses that API's credits, shown on the API's page in the extension. The remaining balance is shown at the top after each run.
- Rate limits are retried automatically after the wait the API asks for. If a run keeps being limited, it stops and says so. Rows already filled stay filled.
- Out of credits: the run stops at the first row that can't be paid for, and tells you.
- A failed lookup leaves its rows unchanged. The summary counts them and shows the first error, for example a value the API rejected.
Requests go only to api.apiverve.com, in batches through the
batch endpoint, and each item is billed like a single call.
